Michael Martin, the 24-year-old American, became the fifth winner of the PokerStars.com EPT London event, held in Victoria casino in London. For his success he won the incredible amount of £1000000 (about 1.3 million Euros).
Michael was left with only 95,000 chips, but after a series of incredible hands, he managed to make the ultimate comeback in less than ten minutes! In the last hand of the final, Michael held 44 against the K9 hand of the Swedish Mike Tureniec. A four in the turn secured the American the title of champion of the EPT.
Despite his young age, winning the EPT London is not the first success for Martin. In last year’s EPT Grand Final held in the Monte Carlo casino, he ranked 5th, and second in the Amsterdam Master Classics!
Altogether 596 players paid the buy-in of £ 5200 for the EPT London Open, creating the staggering prize pool of £ 3349200.
Among the poker professionals who participated in this EPT tournament were former world champions Joe Hasem, Greg Reimer, Chris Moneymaker, Gkropelie Bertran, Gus Hansen, David Benjamin, and many other great names of world poker.
Among the celebrities who took part stood out the German former world tennis champion Boris Becker, the Italian ski slalom champion Alberto Tompa, and the Brazilian racing driver Gualter Salles.
